Samsung 3G Handset in Japan

Vodafone Japan just announced that on 25 March 2006 it will commence nationwide sales of the Vodafone 804SS, a new 3G handset by Samsung Electronics. The V804SS represents Samsung’s first mobile phone for the Japanese market and is touted as the world’s thinnest clamshell 3G handset, measuring just 14.9mm and weighs only 98g. Users can view PDF, Microsoft Word and other file types on the handset, it also supports PC Link and has a full-fledged music player functions with external controls.

Custom Disney Bluetooth Music Kit

Japan-based MobileCast has introduced a bluetooth controller and custom face-plate package [.jpg] for DoCoMo’s new P902i 3G handsets made by Panasonic. The “mLink” kit is available, for an estimated market price of about 14,800 yen, in 3 different Disney character designs; Mickey mouse, Minnie Mouse, and Alice in Wonderland and enables remote control operations with the cellphones music player including play, skip, pause and volume adjustment at a working distance of about 10 meters.

Casio G'zOne Headed to Verizon

According to PhoneScoop the FCC finally approved the NX9200 cellphone, the U.S. version of Casio’s popular G’zOne. The handset, which takes both styling and engineering cues from Casio’s G-Shock watch line, sports a Verizon logo in FCC documents. WWJ covered the launch here in May 2005 and said at the time “This could be a design winner should it land on US shores in time for the Christmas shopping rush.” Looks more like “almost in time for spring-break in Florida” instead!

NEC Announces Mobile Music for Telstra

NEC has announced the release of “music-on-the-move”, an innovative new mobile content service for Telstra i-mode users. To bring the site to life, licensing agreements have been secured with major record labels, EMI and Warner, as well as local Australian independent labels, Shock Records and Vicious, providing consumers with a diverse array of mobile content. Music of all genres from past and present is available for purchase and download in through the “music on the move” i-mode site, giving Australian mobile phone users instant access to their favourite tracks.

Sony Ericsson's Blazing Handsets

Sporting a 3.2-megapixel sensor, Sony Ericsson’s new K800i joins an exclusive club of high-res camera phones due out in Europe in 2006. Nearly identical to the K800i, the K790i will be a slightly less expensive alternative which omits 3G and video calling from the raft of available features, settling for tri-band GSM with EDGE for semi-high speed data. Making the leap from spinners and sliders to clamshell, the W300i is Sony Ericsson’s first clamshell Walkman phone, sharing the vast majority of its feature set with the spinner form factor W550i. A quad-band GSM handset with EDGE, the W300i includes the Walkman music player and comes bundled with a 256 MB card.

New W950i Walkman Phone

Sony Ericsson has introduced the W950, an ultra-slim, ultra-stylish, UMTS-enabled device with 4GB of onboard storage complete with touch screen for simple navigation through music genres, playlists, individual songs or music albums. The music player within the W950 has the functionality and sound quality of an equivalent standalone device. Its 4GB storage can take up to 4,000 songs and the sound quality, delivered on high quality headphones, makes listening to music a real pleasure. A new graphic-rich interface on the Walkman player makes it easy to navigate around the music library by song, artist or playlist and now it’s possible to search visually by browsing through album covers using the stylus and touch screen.
