NetGear's 108-Mbps Wireless in Japan

NETGEAR announced their new line of MIMO G wireless products based on the True MIMO(TM) chipset from Airgo Networks. Available in Japan this month, the MIMO G Wireless Router (Model WGM124) and PC Card (Model WGM511) provide customers with the highest-performing wireless networking technology on the market with up to 8x the speed and coverage of standard 802.11g devices. “Whether in the home office, family room, or back yard, customers will enjoy a smooth, consistent connection,” said Naoki Hayashida, Japan Country Manager.

Epson and QUALCOMM Announce New 3G Mobile Display Interface

QUALCOMM and Seiko Epson Corporation, a global leader in imaging technology and products, today announced that Epson has developed an LCD controller chip, the S1D13751, with integrated Mobile Display Digital Interface (MDDI) technology by QUALCOMM. The MDDI standard is an optimized high-speed serial interface solution that directly connects LCD panels and camera modules to the Mobile Station Modem™ (MSM™) chipset, enabling the most advanced, reliable LCD panel and camera technology available today. MDDI is supported by select QUALCOMM CDMA2000® and WCDMA (UMTS) solutions.

DoCoMo Releases N901iC 3G Handset

DoCoMo just announced they will start selling the N901iC [.jpg image] 3G FOMA handset, the latest model in the 901i-series, nationwide on 28 January 2005. The 901i-series offers surround-type 3D sound for vivid ringing melodies and realistic audio effects when playing i-appli games or using other applications. The N901iC also has FeliCa smart-card technology for e-money, ticketing and other handy mobile functions.

Bitfone Expands Asia Operations, Relocates China Development Center to Beijing

Bitfone Corporation, the company that pioneered firmware over-the-air (FOTA) update technology for mobile phones, today announced it is expanding Asia Operations and has relocated the company’s China Development Center (CDC) to Beijing to support growing device management opportunities in the Asia Pacific market. This expansion includes the addition of Dr. De Ji, vice president of the CDC and Asia Pacific Professional Services, as well as increasing resources in Asia to 20 percent of Bitfone’s workforce.

DoCoMo Releases N506is Handset

Yesterday, NTT DoCoMo announced the 2G N506iS by NEC [.jpg], which the company says is the world’s first mobile phone featuring a flat-panel display that also functions as a speaker. The flat-panel speaker emits sound by sending vibrations throughout the entire display panel. A user can hear the person on the other end by placing an ear anywhere on the panel. DoCoMo says that this makes audiovisual content more vivid than conventional handsets, whose speakers are located on the side of the display.

Fujitsu Partners to Offer All-CMOS Single-Chip Wireless USB

Fujitsu Limited and Staccato Communications, Inc. announced a partnership under which they will provide all-CMOS, single-chip wireless universal serial bus (USB) and ultra-wideband (UWB) solutions for the global marketplace. CMOS single-chip wireless USB products are compliant with Multiband OFDM Alliance (MBOA) UWB specifications. Sampling of these chips from Fujitsu and Staccato Communications is scheduled for 2005, moving the companies closer to volume production and commercialization of these chips, targeting the consumer PC, digital home appliance, and mobile phone markets.
