Japan Cellphone Sales Off 8.5%
IT researcher and consulting firm Gartner Japan has announced sales in Japan of cellular phones between January and June. Sales reached 22,133,100 units, down 8.5% over the same period last year. The company attributes the decline in sales to the fact that demand for camera phones was not as brisk as a year ago. Gartner also reports that W-CDMA phones accounted for almost 15% of total cellphone sales.
By vendor, NEC sold 4,857,400 units, down 15.9%, and its share was eroded from 23.9% to 21.9%. Sharp ranked second with sales of 3,145,300 units, up 14.9%, and its share advanced from 11.3% to 14.2%. Panasonic saw its sales plunge 32.4% year-on-year to 2,985,900 units, and its share fell from 18.3% to 13.5%. Toshiba?s sales were 2,193,000 units, down 10.5%, and the company?s share slipped from 10.1% to 9.9%.Via: Japan Corporate News Network.
