CDMA Tops 200 Million Users

The CDMA Development Group announced that CDMA added nearly 13.5 million subscribers in 1Q 2004, reaching 202 million users worldwide. In one year, from March 2003 to 2004, the CDMA subscriber base grew by a record 43 million users, or 31 percent, representing the highest growth for any leading cellular technology, and significantly higher than the 21percent gain for the whole industry. CDMA2000® further strengthened its leadership in 3G by adding 13 million users in the quarter to total 86.2 million, including 6.6 million CDMA2000 1xEV-DO users.

New Global Passport 3G Phone

KDDI will release a new 3G handset, the A1305SA, in June. The new model [.jpg image] made by Sanyo Electric features 144Kbps data transmission and global roaming. Designed for international travellers, users of this handset will be able to bring it overseas use the same number, without applying separately for an international roaming service. The handset’s dimensions are 47w x 92h x 24d mm, and weighs 102 grams.

DoCoMo Earnings Release FY2003

NTT DoCoMo today announced the company’s consolidated financial results (NTT DoCoMo, Inc. and subsidiaries) for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2004. Operating revenues were 5,048.1 billion yen (up 5% year-on-year), operating income was 1,102.9 billion yen (up 4.4% year-on-year), income before income taxes was 1,101.1 billion yen (up 5.6% year-on-year) and net income was 650.0 billion yen (up 205.9% year-on-year).

Sharp's Galileo PVR with WiFi

Sharp Electronics, in partnership with Instant802 Networks, has just released the Galileo Personal Video Recorder (PVR) with wireless 802.11g video distribution technology in Japan. It has the ability to communicate and serve up video, photos, music, or any type of file on its hard drive to just about any Web enabled PC, PDA, or Cellphone.
