Sanyo Unveils QVGA EL Panel

Sanyo Electric Co, Ltd unveiled an organic electroluminescent (EL) panel with QVGA resolution at CEATEC Japan 2003. The 2.5-inch prototype panel is the most precise of all the organic EL panels that Sanyo has developed so far for mobile phones. The prototype panel has a brightness of 150cd/2. The organic EL layer is a white light-emitting low-polymer material, used in combination with a color filter.

Sharp's New High-Res LCD Panel

Sharp Corp has developed an LCD panel with a resolution so high that a cellular phone can display the same kinds of screens shown on a personal computer monitor. The new LCD panel has 300% higher resolution than today’s panels. The 2.6-inch version has 307,200 pixels, for a pixel density comparable to that of a PC display.

Omron Developes World's First Frontlight Technology for LCD Screens

Omron Corporation (TSE: 6645) has developed the world’s first* frontlight manufacturing technology capable of making brighter, clearer liquid display screens while reducing power consumption for wireless handheld’s, PDA’s and other mobile information terminals. The new technology will be on exhibit from October 7 – 11 at the CEATEC JAPAN 2003 show to be held at the Makuhari Messe near Tokyo in Chiba Prefecture.

Matsushita Develops 3-D Sound Reproduction Technology for Mobile Devices

Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd. (hereafter referred to as MEI), best known for its Panasonic brand of consumer electronics and digital communication products, has announced today that it has developed the “Hypersurround Sound System” (HSS), a high-fidelity surround sound reproduction technology that will enable reproduction of three-dimensional sound fields on compact / mobile electronic equipment, and requiring only a small computational load and low power consumption.

Sony Ericsson 3G Handset Delayed

Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications AB has pushed back the launch of its first 3G mobile broadband phone in Europe and Asia by several weeks to early January as the Japanese-Swedish joint venture continues interoperability tests with wireless operators. The Z1010 will support 2G GSM and GPRS technologies, as well as the new 3G mobile broadband networks based on WCDMA technology.
