ACCESS Announces NetFront v3.1 Browser for Symbian OS

DoCoMo Unveils 3 New 506i Handsets

DoCoMo unveiled the new mova® 506i series of three PDC (2G) i-mode mobile phones [.jpg image] in Tokyo and WWJ was on hand to video the event. These new handsets feature cameras with effective resolutions of more than one million pixels. They also come with infrared ports for exchanging data and photos with compatible handsets, performing infrared-based functions such as remote-control operation of appliances and authentication and cashless payments with your Visa credit card.

Vodafone K.K.'s New KOTO Handset Fuses Japanese and Modern Designs

Vodafone K.K. announced today that after late May it will offer the new KOTO -V303T- model by Toshiba with a look that fuses elements of traditional Japanese and modern designs. The KOTO is a design model that combines traditional Japanese and modern elements based on the concept of universal beauty in the present. In addition to incorporating elements of the koto form, the dial keys have been delicately constructed like koto strings.

Embedded Linux for New Archos PDA

Archos will ship at the end of 2004 a portable audio/video device rumored to be based on embedded Linux. Cebit attendees report that the as-yet unnamed device was spotted running Qtopia, a PDA app stack from Trolltech currently available only for embedded Linux. The device will support networking through Ethernet, WiFi, Bluetooth, modem and GSM add-on cards.

NEC to Develop Wireless IP Phones Based on Windows CE Running Intel Hardware

NEC Infrontia Corp. has announced plans to develop wireless IP phones based on Microsoft Windows CE operating system. The plan was announced today, in accordance with the technical cooperation of Microsoft Corp. and Intel Corporation, at the Spring 2004 Voice on the Net (VON) Trade Show & Expo in Santa Clara, California. NEC Infrontia’s wireless IP phones will run Windows CE, Microsoft’s advanced real-time operating system, and leverage a new innovative hardware platform from Intel.

SEVEN Announces Support for BREW Based Handsets in Japan on KDDI

SEVEN Networks, Inc. announced today that the company’s mobile email software is now shipping on BREW-based handsets in the Japanese market. SEVEN’s software provides secure, real-time access to Lotus Domino, Microsoft Exchange, IMAP4 and POP3 email, calendar, personal contacts, corporate directories, network drives and desktop documents. Japan’s second largest mobile operator, KDDI Corp., is the first to launch SEVEN-enabled email services on BREW-based handsets.
