Omron Developes World's First Frontlight Technology for LCD Screens

Omron Corporation (TSE: 6645) has developed the world’s first* frontlight manufacturing technology capable of making brighter, clearer liquid display screens while reducing power consumption for wireless handheld’s, PDA’s and other mobile information terminals. The new technology will be on exhibit from October 7 – 11 at the CEATEC JAPAN 2003 show to be held at the Makuhari Messe near Tokyo in Chiba Prefecture.

Area Information Service to be Tested

DoCoMo announced today that its R-Click Service, a new area-information service incorporating i-mode mobile phones and a “wireless tag” device, will be tested by Mori Building Co. Ltd. at the Roppongi Hills complex in Tokyo. The test will be conducted from November 1, 2003 to February 1, 2004. Individuals participating in the test will each receive a wireless tag transmitter, called a Radio Frequency ID (RFID) tag. Approximately 4,500 RFID tags will be distributed for the test.

NEC to Launch New Mobile Platform

NEC Corporation announced that it has realized an advanced new telecom platform. The first product based on the new platform for mobile operators are new SGSN and GGSN, a packet core node which can handle large-volume IP packet transmission applications such as video streaming and GPS for 3G services. The new platform is the world’s first working model of an Advanced-TCA(TM) (ATCA) based commercial product.

AvantGo Service For Nissan 2004 Maxima

Nissan is harnessing the power of the AvantGo(R) mobile Internet service to extend its “Shift_” campaign to mobile and wireless devices. Nissan has launched a pioneering affinity marketing campaign for the Nissan 2004 Maxima called the “Mobile Concierge” that packages advertising for the new car with compelling entertainment content for consumers.
