KDDI to Release 3G Router – FITELnet-F120 – Using CDMA 1X WIN Network

Furukawa Electric Co., Ltd. will release a broadband router corresponding to high-speed data transmission service CDMA 1X WIN provided by the au cellular phone of KDDI “FITELnet-F120” at the end of January. “FITELnet-F120” is a product that can use the network of CDMA 1X WIN that enables the high-speed data transmission of 2.4Mbps or less as WAN service by following VPN function and backup function to get popular in the FITELnet-F series, and installing card “W01K” for CDMA 1X WIN in “FITELnet-F120”

MTC Snaps Up Tokyo Forum Opportunity to Showcase 3G

MTC, the world’s premier mobile phone operator, is taking steps to boost its global 3G presence and is participating in the forthcoming 3G Mobile World Forum to be held in Japan this week. The telecommunications giant confirmed that it had signed up to become one of the platinum corporate sponsors of the prestigious event, which is being run for the fourth time from January 12 to 14 2005 in Tokyo. The Forum is expected to attract the world’s leading 3G operators, with the commercial application of the technology at a crucial stage and the industry now faced with a choice of options as to how it moves forward.

eAccess Announces 3G Trials

Broadband Internet provider eAccess announced at a press conference here Thursday that it will start W-CDMA experiments in late January in the 1.7-GHz spectrum by partnering with Fujitsu. eAccess President Sachio Senmoto appeared confident that Japan’s telecoms ministry will approve the company’s application to offer mobile services starting in 2006. The trials include performance testing of W-CDMA base stations and a speed evaluation of next-gen HSDPA (so-called Super 3G).

Super 3G Global Standard

According to the Nikkei, the world’s 26 major mobile phone operators and handset makers have agreed to work on a global standard for a super-fast mobile transmission technology. The group includes NTT DoCoMo and NEC of Japan, Britain’s Vodafone Group PLC, US cell-phone carrier Cingular Wireless, Alcatel of France and Siemens AG of Germany. Super 3G can boost mobile transmission speeds to between 30 and 100 megabits per second to match existing land-line fiber-optic telecom technology.

NEC Expanding China 3G Sales

NEC Corp will launch infrastructure-related operations for China’s 3G cellular phone market, the Nihon Keizai Shimbun reported, without citing sources. NEC is also expanding its cellular handset operation in China, the newspaper said. Shipments of the current generation of cell phones exceeded 1 million units as of Nov 30, exceeding the total for financial 2003, it said. NEC estimates that shipments will reach 2 mln units for the full fiscal year and grow to 3 mln in financial 2005, according to the article.
