3GSM World Congress 2006 Awards
The nominees have been announced for this year’s 3GSM awards with the winners to take center stage during a VIP gala dinner in Barcelona’s fabulous National Palace on 14 February 2006. According to the organizers, Mobile communications as a new entertainment and information medium has become the ‘fourth screen,’ after television, cinema and the PC, capable of delivering a vast array of media rich content to users throughout the world. This year there are new categories for mobile gaming, sports, music, film and video content.
It’s no surprise — in the GSM space — that we see very few Japanese companies nominated.
However, Vodafone KK did get the nod for a possible Entertainment Award with their motion control sensor (MCS), “which measures acceleration and orientation in each direction, enabling the handset to recognize its position and how it is moving. This sensor is a world-first handset feature that greatly enhances the interface between handset and human.”
The Sony Ericsson W800 Walkman phone and their K600- and K750-series (with 2-megapixel camera) are up against a fleet of Nokia and Samsung units in the Handset and Device Awards. Full list below.
