QUALCOMM Announces Extensive Adoption of its Integrated QTV Solutions

QUALCOMM Incorporated, pioneer and world leader of Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) digital wireless technology, today announced strong customer demand for its single chip, fully integrated Qtv(TM), Qcamcorder(TM) and Qvideophone(TM) multimedia solutions. These enhanced video solutions are part of QUALCOMM’s suite of Launchpad(TM) technologies integrated into QUALCOMM’s chipset solutions; Qtv is a real-time decoder that enables the streaming and downloading of video content, Qcamcorder is a real-time encoder that records video, and Qvideophone is a two-way, video telephony solution that enables mobile videoconferencing. QUALCOMM’s mobile video solutions have been chosen as the multimedia implementation for more than 30 different handset designs from seven wireless device manufacturers, representing global markets including Europe, Japan, South Korea and North America.

Kyocera, LG Electronics, Motorola, Pantech & Curitel, Samsung, SANYO and Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications Japan, Inc. are among the manufacturers who are developing wireless devices integrated with QUALCOMM’s mobile video software solutions. The LG Electronics LP3000 in South Korea and the Sony Ericsson A1402S for “au” by KDDI in Japan are the first commercially available handsets to include QUALCOMM’s mobile video software.

“Our goal is to enhance the convenience of wireless. With QUALCOMM’s mobile video solutions, we can now support easy-to-use mobile video that changes the phone from a voice communicator into a video experience,” said Mr. Toshio Maki, vice president and general manager of “au” Service & Product Planning Division for KDDI Corporation. “With Qtv and Qcamcorder, KDDI can support commercially available video applications and provide our customers with affordably priced video-enabled handsets.”

“To enhance our cutting-edge technology in the wireless market, it’s vital for us to integrate a strong multimedia solution that delivers high- performance audio and video. We are committed to offering the sleek and stylish audio/video performance mobile phones for ‘au’ users in Japan,” said Mr. Yoshiki Okada, vice president of BU JCDMA, Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications Japan, Inc. “QUALCOMM’s mobile video solution, providing superior performance and lower cost, enables a faster time-to-market of our video-enabled mobile phones.”

“To maintain our edge in the wireless market, we need a reliable multimedia solution that delivers high-performance audio and video functionality while maintaining the sleek designs that set our handsets apart,” said Paul Bae, vice president of Wireless Product Planning for LGE. “QUALCOMM’s Qtv/QCamcorder solution, providing superior performance and lower cost, enables a faster time-to-market of our wireless video-enabled handsets.”

“With over 30 design wins and seven major global OEMs behind our multimedia solutions, QUALCOMM is enabling affordable, accessible mobile video,” said Luis Pineda, vice president of marketing and product management of QUALCOMM CDMA Technologies. “QUALCOMM’s integrated video solution enables lower power and lower cost video-enabled devices — creating revenue- generating opportunities for operators and in-demand devices for OEMs that take advantage of existing and future video content.”

QUALCOMM’s mobile video solutions enable manufacturers to commercialize fully integrated, cost-effective video handsets without the need for additional hardware components. Wide adoption of QUALCOMM’s mobile video solutions is supplying commercial wireless video applications to a wider subscriber basis, accelerating the global commercialization of mobile video to increase revenue-generating opportunities for wireless manufacturers and operators. The first commercial devices based on QUALCOMM’s Qtv and Qcamcorder solutions are available in multiple markets throughout Japan and South Korea, with additional devices to follow in North America and Europe.

QUALCOMM’s Qtv solution is a feature-rich software audio/video decoder that enables mobile devices to stream, download and playback multimedia content. QUALCOMM’s Qcamcorder solution is a real-time video encoder that enables mobile devices to record video and audio simultaneously. The Qvideophone two-way mobile videoconferencing solution has been tailored to 3G networks.

The Qtv, Qcamcorder and Qvideophone solutions are part of QUALCOMM’s Launchpad suite of technologies, which encompasses advanced multimedia, connectivity, position location, user interface and removable storage capabilities.

QUALCOMM’s MSM6xxx family of chipsets and system software provides handset manufacturers with a portfolio of solutions to address next-generation 3G handsets. These chipsets produce cost-effective multimode, multiband solutions that enable true wireless global roaming.

QUALCOMM’s chipsets include access to QUALCOMM’s BREW(R) solution. The BREW system enables the development and monetization of advanced applications and content, allowing operators and OEMs to differentiate their products and services and increase revenues. QUALCOMM’s chipsets are also compatible with the Java(R) runtime environment; J2ME(TM) can be built entirely on the chipset as an extension to the BREW solution.
