Seven Asian Mobile Operators Form Alliance

DoCoMo has just announced that it will join the, tentatively called, “Asia-Pacific Mobile Alliance,” with six other Asian mobile carriers. The group also includes; Far EasTone – Taiwan, Hutchison Essar – India, Hutchison Telecoms – Hong Kong, KT Freetel – Korea, PT Indosat – Indonesia and StarHub Ltd. from Singapore. The alliance boasts a combined customer base of about 100 million mobile subscribers over eight countries and regions.

Flat-Rate 3G Data Card Announced

KDDI has announced it will introduce a new “WIN DATA CARD” sevice, that will enable wireless data communication though the corporate intranet, at a fixed-rate price. The service will offer packet transmission via the Intranet of an enterprise customer for remote users via “CDMA Packet Access” using KDDI’s W01K data card. Targeted at corporate clients who want to facilitate budget management of their communication charges each month the service will be priced at 8,800 jpy plus tax will be available starting August this year.

KDDI Announces 3G CDMA Data Card

Axalto today announced that it has launched the first third generation CDMA User Identification Module (UIM) commercial card in Japan with KDDI, one of Japan’s leading mobile service providers. The Axalto cards are designed to work together with KDDI’s CDMA 2000 EV-DO third generation mobile handsets. KDDI subscribers can now access both GSM and CDMA networks with just one card and users will be able to use the same telephone number both domestically and internationally.

Qualcomm Single-Chip, RF CMOS Transceiver

Qualcomm has announced what is said to be the industry’s first single-chip CDMA2000 radio frequency CMOS transceiver with integrated receive diversity and simultaneous-GPS. The RTR6500 transceiver’s integration of receive diversity improves network capacity, and its integrated support for simultaneous-GPS provides a way to meet the demand for location services while enabling handsets to feature a slim form factor. The transceiver also features IntelliCeiver technology for dynamic power optimization.

Kyocera Unveils Dual-Mode Prototype

Kyocera Wireless and Boingo Wireless announced the demonstration of a prototype Kyocera BREW-based dual-mode Wi-Fi/CDMA handset with integrated Boingo public Wi-Fi roaming at the CTIA Wireless 2006 trade show in Las Vegas. In a real-world setting, network operators and MVNOs can optimize the dual-mode handset’s application suite to automatically choose the appropriate mode, based on environmental and performance preferences.

Au Announces New Handset & Service

According to a press release from KDDI/au today, the company has just announced a new handset, the W43T [.jpg] from Toshiba. Also just announced: this Toshiba unit will incorporate the company’s new 3D Navi GPS service functions and that both will be introduced to the market starting in late April. This latest CDMA-1X unit also offers LISMO mobile music and touts a 3.2-megapixel camera, although it does not have a 4GB HDD, like the recent W41T, or the mobile commerce ‘FeliCa’ chip.
