Omron Corporation (TSE: 6645) has developed the world’s first* frontlight manufacturing technology capable of making brighter, clearer liquid display screens while reducing power consumption for wireless handheld’s, PDA’s and other mobile information terminals. The new technology will be on exhibit from October 7 – 11 at the CEATEC JAPAN 2003 show to be held at the Makuhari Messe near Tokyo in Chiba Prefecture.

NEC set up a large booth of 200 square meters that is closest to the entrance and exhibited only mobile phones. The demonstration of 3G mobile phones attracted attention from visitors. The company exhibited two models supporting both W-CDMA and GSM that it markets in foreign countries, including Great Britain and Australia.

LG Electronics will market new folder-type camera phones featuring a 180-degree horizontally rotating folder with LCD display, 64-chord multi-tone ring, an imbedded antenna and a digital camera with a resolution of 300,000 pixels. The new CYON digital camera phones, LG-SD210, LG-KP2100 and LG-LP2100, also come with a cutting-edge continuous 31-step zoom function, LG officials said.
Mobile phones with a built-in digital camera are enjoying more-than-expected popularity. The market already has five megapixel models, and a record number of units are selling. A survey conducted by Nikkei BP Consulting Inc found that many users expect camera mobile phones to have performances and capabilities as high as those of digital cameras.
