Panasonic Moves on Mobile VoIP Solution
Japan’s second biggest mobile phone maker Panasonic has said that it will launch an IP mobile phone with a wireless LAN function in early 2004. Mikio Mizutani, Panasonic’s EVP has drawn up a company strategy to boost the Matsushita Electric Industrial subsidiary’s IP business strategy for next year.
As part of the move, Panasonic wants to start selling WLAN equipment for businesses. Based on the prospect that the users of its wireless LAN equipment will also use voice over IP (VoIP) mobile phones in the future, the company will have its wireless LAN functions based on the quality of service (QoS) standard expected to be established by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) in the United States in 2004.
