NTT DoCoMo Unveils New 3G FOMA Videophones
NTT DoCoMo, Inc. today unveiled the specifications of its third-generation (3G) F2102V and N2102V clamshell-type videophone handsets and F2402, the FOMA lineup’s first PC card-type terminal equipped for PC-based videophone. The F2102V and N2102V enable client authentication for enhanced network security when making mobile payments and other e-commerce transactions over the FOMA network.
In addition to Adaptive MultiRate speech coding, the two handsets are equipped for Advanced Audio Coding (AAC) audio compression to offer CD-quality sound with DoCoMo’s i-motion(TM) video clip distribution service.
DoCoMo will introduce these models to the market as soon as all preparations for sales are completed.
The main features of each model are as follows (features may subject to change):
F2102V (clamshell-type)
-Realizing continuous stand-by time of approx. 240 hours (static: approx. 310 hours).
-Inner CCD camera (330,000 effective pixels) and outer CCD camera (110,000 effective pixels), both equipped with auxiliary light for videos and photos in dim lighting.
-Dual sound speakers for clear-audio video calls
-Accepts “miniSD” Memory Card
-Able to transfer schedules and addresses to as backups to PCs.
-Client authentication function
N2102V (clamshell-type)
-Approx. 98cc in size (smallest in FOMA series)
-Realizing continuous stand-by time of approx. 200 hours (static: approx. 270 hours).
-Inner CMOS camera (320,000 effective pixels) and outer CMOS camera (110,000 effective pixels) for videos and photos.
-65,536-color, approx. 1-inch TFT outer display.
-“Picture Voice” function which enables users to send/receive mail with attached audio clips.
-“Speed photo-mail” function which enables users to take photos and send them attached to mail while talking on the phone.
-Access Reader (R) function for simplified registration of URLs, mail addresses and telephone numbers appearing in magazines, etc. by using the camera on the phone as a reader.
-Optical Character Reader for simplified entry of URLs and easy access to websites.
-Client authentication function
F2402 (PC-card type terminal)
-Turns PC into wireless 3G terminal for videophone (requires separate earphone-microphone and USB camera)
-By connecting the optional P002 switch-equipped earphone-microphone to the terminal and using utility software installed in a PC, users are able to call and receive voice-only calls.
-Send and receive at 384 kbps max. (packet transmission)
-Multiaccess for simultaneous voice/packet communications
