MTC Snaps Up Tokyo Forum Opportunity to Showcase 3G

MTC, the world’s premier mobile phone operator, is taking steps to boost its global 3G presence and is participating in the forthcoming 3G Mobile World Forum to be held in Japan this week. The telecommunications giant confirmed that it had signed up to become one of the platinum corporate sponsors of the prestigious event, which is being run for the fourth time from January 12 to 14 2005 in Tokyo. The Forum is expected to attract the world’s leading 3G operators, with the commercial application of the technology at a crucial stage and the industry now faced with a choice of options as to how it moves forward.

With the MTC Group committed to rolling out its range of 3G services throughout its worldwide customer base, the Tokyo event will provide a further regional platform to showcase its services.

Khalid Al Farkh, Chief Operating Officer of MTC-Vodafone (Bahrain), who will be one of the Forum’s keynote speakers, said: “We regard this event as a wonderful opportunity both for us and also for the industry.

“It is no secret that we are committed to this end of the industry and that we see a great deal of potential here that has yet to be realized. Our 3G-UMTS is the next generation of mobile phone network, bringing greater speed and more exciting services than ever before.

Mr. Al Farkh, who will lead a delegation of top officials from the group’s Middle East office to the forum – MTC is the only Arab operator committed to attending ? will use his speech to outline MTC-Vodafone (Bahrain)’s 3G Experience in the Gulf, one of the most vibrant and progressive telecommunications markets. He is also expected to unveil the group’s future plans for the region.

He said: “There are challenges, but there are many opportunities as well. The market in the region is primed for a major takeoff. It has, in the past, been inhibited by the lack of handsets and this has been a problem the world over. We expect this to become less and less of a factor in the near future and we see 3G becoming a huge business in the region for MTC Group.”
