Japan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) is considering plans to implement a four-fold increase in mobile bandwidth allocations in the 2000MHz band by 2020, as it seeks to cater for the anticipated explosion in demand for mobile and wireless data traffic. The Nikkei daily adds that under the plan the ministry also hopes to introduce a compensation scheme for existing owners of spectrum which open up their frequencies to other mobile data services, and to relax current regulations on users installing picocell-style wireless substations in their own homes.
