Analysts say Japan Display can succeed, but the stakes are high for the entire Japanese electronics sector. The company must tackle South Korea’s Samsung Electronics Co., which has extensive resources to invest in new technology, as well as other Asian rivals that offer less-expensive, if generic, products.
The combined value of the market for small liquid-crystal-display and organic-light-emitting-diode panels was $27.2 billion last year, according to DisplaySearch.
