Fujitsu Ltd developed a clamshell mobile phone that is equipped with two touch-sensitive LCD panels on its upper and lower chassis and exhibited it at Ceatec Japan 2010.
The screen sizes of the upper and lower panels are 3.4 and 3.5 inches, respectively. Their pixel count is 480 x 960. Because the handset is a prototype, the pixel count of its camera is only 300,000. Though the capacity of its lithium-ion rechargeable battery has not been disclosed, Fujitsu said, “The power consumption of the handset is about 1.5 times higher than that of a normal mobile phone.”
The prototyped handset is capable of wireless communication via a wireless LAN. It is also equipped with a communication module for 3G networks. The operating system is Symbian, but the user interface of the handset can be used with the Android platform too, Fujitsu said. The company has not yet determined when to commercialize the handset.
