DoCoMo Introduces 505iS Series Handsets
NTT DoCoMo, Inc. and its eight regional subsidiaries today announced the upcoming launch of the new mova 505iS series of five PDC (2G) i-mode mobile phones featuring mega-pixel cameras. Menu icons downloaded from i-mode sites can be saved as preferred icons, one of various ways that the handsets can be highly personalized. The D505iS will be released on October 23, followed consecutive release of the other four models in the near future.
Distinguishing features of the 505iS series handsets also include*:
** The cameras read JAN Code and QR Code(r) to easily retrieve data from printed materials and copy and paste information into the phone’s address book or save as bookmarks.
** Accept Memory Stick Duo(tm) and “miniSD” memory cards.
** Chat with up to 10 people simultaneously. (Requires pre-registration for Chat Mail service. DoCoMo 505iS/252i series, P504i, P504iS and P505i handsets are also compatible.)
** Record and playback audio video clips.
The D505iS will become the first handset in the series to go on sale on October 23. The model features a Super CCD Honeycom(r) camera with an effective resolution of one mega pixels. Up to two mega-pixels resolution is possible with pictures saved in data form. A total of 22 shooting modes can be selected according to the environment and occasion. The camera also has a 20x digital zoom.
The D505iS can automatically reformat still images for mobile transmission as small-sized i-shot(tm) images. Up to 970 additional stills can be saved in this format using a 16-MB Memory Stick Duo.
Using advanced i-appli DX(tm) applications based on Macromedia(r) Flash(tm), the phone’s address book, call log, etc. can be highly customized to suit the user’s individual needs and preferences. Rich content can be downloaded from multiple servers. Data exchange is possible with i-appli(tm), and information can be sent to i-appli sites via i-mode mail.
The D505iS will be available through all DoCoMo sales channels. The price of the handset itself will be open (unfixed). The standard accessory kit, including battery pack, AC adaptor, desktop holder, 16-MB Memory Stick Duo and Memory Stick Duo adaptor, will cost 5,700 yen**.
*Final specifications are subject to change.
**Pricing may vary in markets of the eight regional subsidiaries.
