Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd., best known for its Panasonic brand products, today unveiled five new models of DIGA DVD recorders. The recorders have 160- to 400-GB hard drives, providing massive recording and storage, high-speed dubbing, and superb home and mobile networking capabilities.
Korean Telecom’s booth at ITU Telecom Asia 2004 is showing off the new HP iPAQ rw6100-series Pocket PC (the “iPAQ SwingPhone”) using the CDMA 1X EV-DO system combined with a wireless LAN 802.11b module. The PDA-style terminal [.jpg image] uses KT’s “NESPOT” service enabling high-speed mobile network connection using the Windows Mobile 2003 OS on the Intel PXA270 520MHZ chip. It boasts 128MB of flash memory over the 64MB of onboard RAM.
UTStarcom, Inc., a global leader in IP access networking and services, today announced that it has signed contracts valued at approximately $41 million with China Telecom Corporation for handsets for its IP-based PAS (Personal Access System) (iPAS) network.
Intel Corp. announced that Fujitsu Limited and UTStarcom support the use of standards-based modular platforms including Intel processors for their service provider customers.
Samsung Electronics have unveiled the SPH-V5400 handset [.jpg image], the first-ever mobile phone with an internal hard disc drive. The company’s latest innovation, which also comes with a mega-pixel camera, is currently being exhibited at ITU Telecom Asia 2004. The phone is equipped with a 1-inch diagonal, 1.5-GB hard disc drive; conventional cellys have a maximum of about 100MB of RAM memory. The breakthrough product will be available for Korean consumers in mid-September.
Three of Japan’s major electronics manufacturers have agreed on a standard interface specification for a type of memory in 3G mobile phones that will allow the companies to use a common component design to help phones function better. The companies will begin production of memory parts based on the specification in March 2005, according to a statement.
