Japanese Smartphone Users Gaming Survey

MMD Institute announced their survey results [Jpn] on smartphone gaming in Japan conducted in early August with sample size of 566 men and women aged 15-59 years old who own a smartphone. Highlights noted that 61.7% play games every day with 64% reporting avg. engagement time running 5-30 minutes. 34% indicate paying between $5 and $20 per month while 13% are spending from $50 to over $100.
By utilization of platforms: 38% indicated LINE, 16% on Mobage, 14% Choose Ameba while 11% noted Gree and 9% for Mixi. The order of game style preference was Puzzle 61% with action at 21% and simulation was 16%. The top title, of course, was Puzzle & Dragons at 22% followed by LINE POP 21% and LINE bubble 17%.
