PRESS RELEASE
Scalado, the leader in mobile imaging software solutions, has today announced that its Scalado SpeedTags technology is to be integrated with the Mobile Application Processors being developed by Renesas Technology Corp., a world-leading chipset manufacturer. Scalado SpeedTags, a powerful solution which provides accelerated image capture and management for camera phones, will be integrated with Renesas’ processors in order to deliver enhanced high-quality multi-megapixel mobile imaging, and to help end users to manage the larger files produced by the high-resolution image sensors.
Renesas is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of semiconductor systems for mobile phones and automotive applications. Based in Tokyo, the company currently has manufacturing, design and sales operations in 16 countries and is the world’s largest manufacturer of microcontrollers and the second largest manufacturer of application processors.
Implementation of SpeedTags into Renesas’ powerful next generation SH-Mobile application processor will support the use of Scalado’s CAPS™ imaging suite, a powerful solution which is focused on providing enhanced functionality to camera phones, whilst also paving the way for further integration with other Renesas technologies in the future. As a result, users can expect increased performance and data handling capabilities for high resolution files that will dramatically improve the experience of viewing images on a mobile device.
Renesas already has good relationships with first tier handset vendors, and Renesas’ SH-Mobile is used in a lot of handsets from such vendors. With powerful partners like these Renesas will give Scalado the opportunity for greater penetration within both new and existing markets.
“This is a very important deal which will certainly lead to superior performance and features in camera phones, thereby increasing Scalado’s market penetration in this area,” says Fadi Abbas, Co-founder, and Interim CMO/CSO at Scalado. “By working together, our two companies can deliver outstanding results for capturing editing and viewing images on-the-go, including zero shutter lag, burst mode, astonishing auto panorama capturing, and other refined features.”
With the benefit of Scalado SpeedTags, end-users can instantly capture multi-megapixel images without any “shutter lag”, thereby freezing the exact moment of capture. Until now, only advanced Digital Still Cameras (DSC) and Single Lens Reflex (SLR) cameras have been capable of managing the delay between pressing the capturing button and actually saving the captured image.
As a result, ‘shutter lag’ has typically been one of the biggest technical challenges facing camera phones, especially when photographing moving objects. However, with Scalado’s groundbreaking ‘zero shutter lag’ technology, camera phone users can be sure that the image which they see in the viewfinder is the image that they capture. Users can then instantly zoom into the resulting JPEG images to review the details of the image in real-time.
