Vodafone Ships New 3G Phones
Vodafone K.K. have just announced they will commence sales of their new 3G handset lineup, the Vodafone 902/802/702-series, starting with Nokia’a V702NK [.jpg image] 8 December in the Kanto-Koshin region, 10 December in the Tokai and Kansai regions, and other areas following thereafter. New Vodafone live! 3G services like video call roaming, large-size mail, and streaming will also be offered from 8 December to coincide with the sales launch.
No doubt, Ken Gai has been waiting patiently for months to get a hold of this Sharp 902SH model after the first November peek-a-boo. Meanwhile, we saw this first release model, aka the 6630, in early October (and their new 9500 Communicator as well); it was a pretty solid brick that just might fare better than anything else Nokia has launched in Japan. We’ll soon see if this latest blast of cool 3G terminals helps turn the former good ship J-Phone around before it’s too late.

One interesting point on the timing of this press release would be that Tsuda-san is going to be on the hot seat here tomorrow taking over as President and CEO of Vodafone K.K — and you would have to think the local media folks will be asking about this latest (and seemingly delayed) handset launch. At least he will be able to point to a new terminal roll-out that is actually under way.
