The Asia’s largest IT & Digital Trade Show WPC EXPO 2004 will be held from October 20, Wednesday, through 23, Saturday, at the Tokyo Big Site. The number of exhibitors at the WPC EXPO 10th anniversary will be a total of 323 companies in 1,518 booth units (as of October 5). The show will cover a wide range of digital devices including PCs and peripherals, and also digital home appliances: DVD/HDD recorders, flat-screen televisions, digital cameras, and music players. Furthermore, in the “Business Zone” Hall 1 & 2, forerunner companies from China, Korea and Taiwan will exhibit. Witness the business scene in the Asian countries that lead the world economy.

Organizer’s Events
The WPC EXPO’S first photo contest “Digital Photo Grand Prix”: Selected works will be on display in the “Digital Photo Park,” where visitors can try digital cameras, peripheral devices and photography software for themselves. In the afternoon of September 23, Saturday, awards will be given on the main stage. “The Home of the Future” in “Experience Innovation Zone” will future cutting-edge technologies that everyone wishes they had, like home networking, digital appliances, and home robots. Everything is demonstrated, with a detailed explanation of how things work, and what it will take to make the homes of the future a reality.

Nikkei BYTE 20th Anniversary event
“The Future of Computers by Jerry Pournelle”
October 21, Thursday, 10:15 – 12:00, Tokyo Big Sight, Tower Building

“WPC Forum 2004” will welcome representatives and key persons from every sector to speak about the changes and possibilities brought by digital devices. At the “Computer Network Track,” we will welcome Dr. Jerry Pournelle, author of “COMPUTING AT CHAOS MANOR,” serialized in NIKKEI BYTE. Dr. Pournelle is a famous science-fiction writer, who has followed changes in computer technologies through computer experiments at his home, “Chaos Manor.” He will visit Japan for the first time in 5 years to deliver a special lecture “The past, now, and future of computer technologies.” He will also join a talk session “Let’s Talk about COMPUTING AT CHAOS MANOR” to speak about his handmade computers and answer questions from readers of his column.
