Subscriptions to KDDI au Cellular Service Exceeds 15 Million
KDDI is pleased to announce that the au cellular service provided by KDDI and Okinawa Cellular Telephone exceeded 15 million subscribers as of Friday, August 15. In April 1999, the former IDO Corporation and former DDI Cellular group completed the deployment of a nationwide cdmaOne network, and started providing a seamless nationwide cellular service to customers.
Furthermore the 3G service (CDMA2000 1x) that was launched in April 2002, provides a fast mobile Internet access environment underpinned by high-speed data communications.
This is a communication standard that makes it possible to use EZweb, an Internet access service and to have connections to other providers, at 144kbps or less for downlink connections and 64kbps or less for uplink. Going forward, au is committed to providing 3Gservices to customers that are highly convenient.
