I-mode coverage extends to Italy, Spain

Spain’s Telefonica launched a commercial I-mode service on Thursday, while Wind Telecomunicazioni SpA agreed Wednesday to become the exclusive provider of I-mode services in Italy, DoCoMo said in separate statements.

After establishing a significant footprint in northern Europe, the I-mode mobile Internet service pioneered by Japan’s NTT DoCoMo Inc. is stepping southward into Spain and Italy. Telefica and Wind join DoCoMo’s growing list of I-mode service providers, which includes E-Plus Mobilfunk GmbH & Co.
