An increasing number of high-end smartphones are coming with full-HD LCD panels. For example, NTT Docomo Inc released four smartphones equipped with a full-HD LCD panel as “Spring 2013 models.” Japan Display Inc developed a 5.2-inch full-HD (1,920 x 1,080-pixel) OLED panel with a resolution of 423ppi. The panel was realized by combining white OLED devices and color filters (CFs).
Japan Display realized the high resolution by combining its low-temperature polysilicon (LTPS), white OLED and drive technologies. And the company intends to solve problems involved in volume production by deepening ties with Japan-based material and equipment makers. Via TechOn
