Global Industry Leaders to Take Stage At 3GSM Asia

Building on the global success of the world’s leading mobile industry event, the 3GSM World Congress which attracted nearly 30,000 visitors to Cannes last February, the GSM Association & T&F Informa are pleased to announce the 3GSM World Congress Asia. Speakers at the conference, which will be held in Singapore on 29 September to 1 October 2004, include an unprecedented line up of operator CEOs and industry leaders.

“The GSMA Board understands the importance that Asia will play in the growth of the mobile industry, and the creation of this event reflects that growth, as we present a second 3GSM World Congress in an Asian context,” said Rob Conway, CEO of the GSM Association and Member of its Board.

“In such a fast moving industry, with rapidly evolving issues, products, services and technologies, it is essential that we satisfy the voracious demand for information with a second annual conference platform. We are delighted therefore to announce details of the program for Singapore.”

“Located in the heart of Asia’s fastest growing mobile market, Singapore is well positioned to host the event. It reinforces our commitment to be Asia’s living lab for wireless innovations”, said Mrs Tan Ching Yee, CEO, Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA).

With a cutting edge two-day event, the 3GSM World Congress Asia will address the most critical issues and strategic challenges facing the mobile industry as it heads into the next phase of mass-market growth — beyond one billion GSM customers today.

Co-hosted with the GSMA’s General Membership Meeting, Asia’s premier mobile conference platform will draw representatives from the global trade association’s operator community of more than 630 operators from 200 countries/areas as well as the broader GSM industry eco-system. More than 20 operator CEOs are confirmed to speak as part of a compelling, strategically driven industry agenda.

These include: Craig Ehrlich, Board Member Hutchison Mobile, Hong Kong (Chairman GSMA Board); Rob Conway, GSMA CEO; Lim Chuan Poh, CEO SingTel Mobile, Singapore; Jamaludin Ibrahim, CEO, Maxis Mobile, Malaysia; Bruce Hicks, CEO, SUNDAY Communications, Hong Kong; Arve Johansen, CEO Telenor Mobile, Norway; Mauro Sentinelli, Managing Director TIM, Italy (and Deputy Chair GSMA Board), Napoloean Nazareno, President & CEO, Smart Communications, Philippines; Sunil Mittal, CEO Bharti Telecom, India; Charles Henshaw, CEO, China Resources Peoples Telephone Company; Douglas Li, CEO, SmarTone, Hong Kong; Gerado Ablaza, CEO, Globe Telecom, Philippines and Somprasong Boonyachai, CEO, AIS, Thailand; Boonchai Bencharongkuli, Chairman, Total Access Communications, Thailand; Zouhair Khaliq, President & CEO, Mobilink, Pakistan; Jan Nilsson, President, FarEasTone Telecommunications, Taiwan; Mu-Pio Shih, CTO, Mobile Business Group, Chungwa Telecom, Taiwan; Neil Montefiore, CEO MobileOne, Singapore; Pham Long Tran, President & CEO, Vietnam Post & Telecommunications Corporation, Vietnam.

The agenda spans a wealth of current challenges and issues facing the mobile world today, such as sessions exploring the key drivers of the next one billion GSM customers, ensuring ubiquitous global services, the demands of developing markets, and market opportunities for compelling content.

“No region in the world encapsulates the potential for the development of the industry better than Asia,” said Craig Ehrlich, Chairman of the GSMA’s Board. “The issues facing the Asian market are global and therefore demand the global platform that the 3GSM World Congress banner provides.”

3GSM World Congress Asia is supported by the InfoComm Development Authority (IDA) of Singapore, and sponsored by Huawei, Sim Alliance, Smarttrust and Inphomatch. The full agenda can be found at: www.3gsmasia.com
