AR Greeting Card by Hallmark Japan

Billed as world first, AR Appli scored deal with Hallmark Japan for an AR greeting card series = Happy Birthday! http://bit.ly/A0w5a7

Arara Inc. recently announced that its smartphone application, ARAPPLI, has been selected by Nihon Hallmark K.K. as a platform to launch the world’s first smartphone-based augmented reality (AR) greeting card series.

The AR greeting card series “Smaho de Anime” (525 yen) is available in seven varieties and goes on sale from August 1. Popular original Hallmark characters including Yum Yums, Bear’s Wish, and Hoops & Yoyo are displayed as three-dimensional images enjoyable by people of all ages.

Through use of ARAPPLI, AR data is downloaded by scanning the QRAR mark on the greeting cards, which in turn displays corresponding content. For birthday cards, cute characters appear in a movie alongside a message and birthday song. Characters that light candles or ride a bike can be enjoyed from all angles around the QRAR mark. By harmonizing three-dimensional contents with 2D cards, a novel form of greeting card has been born.

In addition, card recipients can take a picture with the downloaded content. From ARAPPLI, the pictures can be sent along with greetings and can also be uploaded to Facebook or sent to Twitter to share with friends.
