    Mobile operators campaign for Japan earthquake victims

    The Association of Mobile Telecom Operators of Bangladesh (AMTOB) has started a campaign to raise fund for Japan Earthquake and Tsunami victims, named “Stand by a Friend”. This was disclosed at a press briefing in the city Tuesday. As part of the effort, an SMS campaign is being launched by all telecom companies to raise fund for Japanese victims.

    Under this initiative, each SMS from subscribers of any operator will account for BDT 10. The subscriber is needed to type J in their message option and send it to 1204. The entire amount (excluding VAT) contributed by all mobile subscribers will be donated to Japan earthquake victims. Also, marked aid boxes will be placed at all Robi Sheba Points across the country to collect cash donation.

    While addressing the journalists Managing Director & CEO Michael Kuehner said ” Today all mobile phone operators are cooperating with each other to be part of a great cause. Donation collected from this initiative by all mobile phone operators will be handed over to Japan”.
