  • SoftBank Mobile Courting Willcom?

    SoftBank is considering a play for Willcom - according to the Yomiuri Shimbun - see in English Here.

    SoftBank is courting Wilcom according to a short article posted on Yomiuri. Apparently, SBM is after their 4 million subscribers and next-generation PHS technology “sources” said.

    Several fund management firms have offered to support Wilcom. Its largest stockholder, Carlyle Group of the United States, is expected to decide on which company it allows to extend support to Wilcom by the end of this year, the sources said. As a condition to purchase Wilcom, SoftBank has requested that financial institutions forgive part of their 93.5 billion yen in loans to Wilcom, they said.

    This tug-o-war will likely prove to be rather interesting.. 8-)
