  • Samsung Jet Test Flight on Video

Samsung JET on VideoWireless Watch Japan spent an interesting week in Singapore at the annual CommunicAsia conference and trade show recently where we managed to shoot this demo of the latest Samsung Jet offering which made it’s debut there on June 15th. Billed as ‘Smarter than a Smartphone’ the AMOLED display is super crisp at 480dpi and it’s 800MHz processor lends power to the speedy brand name. The companies Touch Whiz UI, with drag and drop widgets, and the newly minted Dolphin browser featuring one finger zoom while enabling tabbed browsing of up to five web pages at one time were all impressive additions. Watch the video and see for yourself — Special thanks to Mr. Shin from Samsung for taking the time!

In one word.. WOW. We were so impressed with this handset that we shopped out an un-locked version later in the week from SingTel at about $500usd. The sleek unit packs a 5 megapixel camera with face detection and geo-tagging, bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync Email and GPS function for driving or walking modes along with support for DivX and XviD codecs. As mentioned in the video they are still in the process of building out the dedicated app store, however we expect to see this as a game changer for the latter half of 2009 as it becomes more widely available in other markets.

Meanwhile, no doubt they will put a few more interesting offerings into the pipeline as a result of the Innovation Quest, get your widgets submitted by August 14th. Based on past experience, with the Omnia for example, we expect to see this becoming available in Japan sometime later in fiscal 2009.
