Manga Mode Launches in Europe
DoCoMo just announced that they will provide popular Japanese manga content for Europe with offerings via Bouygues Telecom becoming available as of today. The initial library of translated titles, including; NARUTO, DRAGON BALL and DEATH NOTE all published by SHUEISHA Inc., will be accessible under the the MANGA MODE section of the carriers mobile portal along with a dedicated reader. According to the press release DoCOMo will continue to pursue opportunities in other countries.
DOCOMO’s Dutch subsidiary, originally set up as DOCOMO i-mode Europe B.V. to promote the overseas expansion of DOCOMO’s mobile Internet platform, was renamed DOCOMO Netherlands B.V. on June 1 to reflect its involvement with a broadening scope of services.
All things considered, this is a no-brainer by both content type and local telco partner. It will be interesting to see what other contents and services, let alone markets, big D has targeted for overseas. Interesting timing considering news on the upcoming Japan Expo in Paris.. details via: MOFA.
