  • MediaFLO Conference in Tokyo

Qualcomm has announced that it will host the first-ever MediaFLO Conference in Tokyo to provide the latest information about their mobile broadcast solution. The event will take place on Friday, June 8 at 14:00 at the Hotel Okura with Omar Javaid, vice president, business development, Qualcomm MediaFLO Technologies, providing a global market status presentation. WWJ interviewed Ali Zamari, international business development manager for MediaFLO, at the Wireless Japan tradeshow last year.

Jim Coyer, staff product manager, Qualcomm MediaFLO Technologies, will speak about the future product capabilities of the MediaFLO System, and Dr. Kamil Grajski, president of the FLO Forum, an industry organization consisting of more than 78 companies worldwide, will provide an update on the organization’s standardization efforts. Additionally, presentations will be given by Kazuhiko Masuda, president of MediaFLO Japan Planning Inc. and Masahiko Yabuki, president of Mobile Media Planning Corp., to share their perspectives on MediaFLO from a wireless operator’s viewpoint.

It should be noted that the Communications ministry is preparing to license 32.5MHz spectrum soon, which we pointed out in the digital tv section of our 2007 forcast newsletter. No doubt the players are in full lobby mode to get a slice of those airwaves.
