New Japan Alliance for RFID
Internet Initiative Japan Inc., IIJ Technology Inc., and Hewlett-Packard Japan, Ltd., have formed a business alliance for the commercialization of an RFID platform using networks based on international RFID standards called the EPCglobal Network. Through this alliance, the three companies will offer global real-time SCM (supply chain management), which can be put to practical use for intercompany and international logistics.
The three companies will join forces in the following three fields:
1. Joint research on commercialization of the EPCglobal Network-compliant system
This alliance will conduct joint research on the EPCglobal Network-compliant RFID platform and develop infrastructure construction technologies for intercompany and international logistics (in particular, manufacturing, logistics, distribution, and sales across several countries or regions).
2. Joint provision of an RFID platform in HP RFID Noisy Lab Japan
This alliance will construct a practical environment for the RFID platform at HP RFID Noisy Lab Japan, a joint verification facility of four companies including HP Japan.(1) In addition to conducting evaluations and verifications of joint research and development results, the alliance will offer a system to verify problems experienced by customers using this environment.
3. Proposal and construction of an RFID platform for intercompany and international logistics
Utilizing the know-how of three companies, the alliance will jointly construct an RFID platform appropriate for intercompany and international logistics, with the Asia-Pacific region as the primary target.
