LG Telecom Ltd., the smallest of Korea’s three mobile-phone carriers, said it will focus on added-value features such as digital music and mobile television services next year to defend its customer pool from other carriers. “The company is planning to install MP3 functions in 80 percent of our mobile handsets released next year to promote our digital music services. We are also ready to start terrestrial digital multimedia broadcast services right away after the licenses are allocated in March,” said LG Telecom Chief Executive Nam Yong during a Seoul news conference yesterday.
“Our business model is developing services that combine wireless communication with other industry sectors such as finance and entertainment. The market for voice communication is declining and mobile data services are not a reliable revenue source as of yet considering the size of investments.” Continue >>
