Wireless Developments Showcased at 3GSM World Congress Asia

The 3GSM World Congress Asia looks set to be the most important congregation of industry leaders in the telecommunications industry. The congress will showcase the latest wireless developments from Singapore and around the world, while latest updates to the programme reveal the participation of even more industry movers and shakers.

The Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) will be leading six companies, ANTlabs, Bedd, Bluengine, Clearhub, PacNet, and Radixs to showcase their leading-edge technology and applications to an expected 1,000 international delegates.

Leading the Singapore Pavilion, one of the largest at the event, IDA will also showcase a Public WLAN interworking reference architecture developed and validated in collaboration with Intel, five major operators and nine leading vendors. This collaboration is significant because it is the first to involve operators and vendors from the Asia-Pacific region. The Wireless Interworking Initiative aims to bring about seamless connectivity and one-bill roaming, and create new business opportunities for a variety of operators to benefit from the hotspot revenue space. To demonstrate the latest developments, there will be a hotspot roaming demonstration at the exhibition.

“Since the IDA-Intel Wireless Interworking Initiative was launched in March 2003, we have been working closely with a number of regional cellular, WLAN and broadband operators and key network equipment vendors to develop the interworking reference architecture and validate at multiple test beds located at IDA,” said Dr Tan Geok Leng, Chief Technology Officer (covering), Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore. “Furthermore, the reference architecture will be progressively deployed in public libraries and McDonalds’ outlets in Singapore. This initiative has also helped prepare participating operators to embark on pilot and commercial rollouts with confidence.”

New mobile communities software by company BEDD will be showcased for the first time in Singapore at the 3GSM World Congress Asia. BEDD searches automatically to connect people for friendship and dating, buying and selling, and alerting when friends and family are close by. The BEDD application was commercially launched in May 2004 in Singapore.

A leading Mobile Data Exchange Hub specialising in mobile messaging, Clearhub will be launching its new 12Wap and MMS InterCarrier service at the event. 12Wap is an innovative Global Mobile Wap service that enables communities of mobile operators, enterprises and consumers to conveniently share, communicate and interact via mobile numbers or nicknames.

As Asia’s largest telco-independent Internet Communications Service Provider by geographic reach, PacNet will be at the event to invite international GRX operators to peer with Peering Singapore – Asia’s first neutral peering point for GPRS roaming.

Other developments on show will be Radixs exhibiting their mobile data communication operating systems, MXI, ANTlabs showcasing their ezXcess gateway that provides zero-configuration for broadband connectivity, and Bluengine promoting their latest wireless broadband network solutions.
