Sony Ericsson Licenses HI Corp’s 3D Engine
HI Corporation has signed a licensing agreement for its 3D rendering engine “Mascot Capsule Engine Micro3D Edition with Sony Ericsson Mobile Comm. The first handsets implemented with Micro 3D Edition in accordance with the agreement are planned for launch in Q2 2004.
The plan calls for supply of Micro 3D Edition Version 4, and includes support for Open GL ES. The engine will be included in Sony Ericsson Micro 3D Edition for mobile terminals planned for manufacture and distribution around the world by Sony Ericsson in connection with JSR-184 (Java Mobile Graphics 3D API).
Micro 3D Edition already enjoys the mainstream of mobile 3D usage in Japan, enabling operation of major titles such as Ridge Racer, Biohazard, I.Q, and Train to Go! 3D.
